What Kind of Day Has It Been?

This will be my final blog post for the takeAIM website, as my year as a fellow is coming to an end.

It’s been an absolute privilege to work alongside the brilliant team we’ve had this year. I’m sure they’d all agree with me when I say we’ve been really well supported by the Society for Acute Medicine and its leadership.

As I look ahead to the future of our brilliant specialty, I’m even more positive than I was when I started writing for this website a year ago.

I’ve been lucky to meet so many brilliant people – both established and aspiring acute physicians – all united by a shared purpose and a shared passion. Our national conference earlier this month was inspiring to be a part of, not simply because I got to hear from so many great acute medics about the brilliant careers and work they’re doing, but because I got to meet the acute medical registrars and consultants of tomorrow.

takeAIM is yet more reason I was right to choose Acute Medicine. The fact that SAM gives this platform and this space to registrars early in their careers – with all the support and autonomy we could ask for – is proof of how invested the specialty is in the next generation. I don’t think I would have had an opportunity like this in acute other field.

If this is the first page you’ve stumbled across on our website, please do look around. You can watch our videos dispelling myths about the specialty or play our interactive game taking you through a career in Acute Medicine. Or you can read the many blogs we’ve posted over the last year, covering everything from specialty applications to life as an AMU reg.

And if you’re here because you’re considering a career in AIM, please reach out to this year’s fellows via our email – they’d love to hear from you.

See you at a conference some time soon. Thanks for everything.
