Take AIM Conference 2026: Our Biggest and Most Successful Conference Yet
The Take AIM Conference 2026 was held at the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (RCPE) on Monday 15 June 2026. It was the most successful Take AIM conference to date, attracting a record 167 attendees from across the United Kingdom.
Delegates included medical students, foundation doctors, and resident doctors, all united by a strong interest in pursuing the rewarding and diverse career of acute medicine.
Inspiring Morning Sessions
The conference opened with a plenary session exploring what acute medicine is—and what it is not—while highlighting several key aspects of the specialty. Topics included Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), known in Scotland as the Rapid Assessment and Care Unit (RACU), and the growing role of Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) in acute medical practice.
This was followed by a series of talks showcasing the wide range of specialist skills and career development opportunities available within acute medicine. Speakers discussed Out of Programme opportunities leading to accreditation in Stroke Medicine and Intensive Care Medicine, alongside specialist interests including Infectious Diseases, Medical Education, and Maternal Medicine.
Practical Afternoon Workshops
The afternoon programme consisted of two parallel workshops, with all delegates having the opportunity to participate in both sessions.
Ultrasound in the Great Hall at the RCPE
One workshop focused on applications and interview preparation, providing practical advice for those considering a career in acute medicine. The second workshop offered hands-on experience in Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS), with stations covering abdominal ultrasound, thoracic ultrasound, and vascular access.
Record-Breaking Abstract Submissions
The conference abstracts programme was another major success, receiving approximately 180 submissions—the highest number ever received for a Take AIM conference.
The Take AIM Fellows faced the challenging task of selecting just 60 abstracts for presentation, reflecting both the high quality and growing popularity of the conference.
Looking Ahead
The conference was a tremendous success, with excellent engagement from delegates throughout the day and a smoothly delivered programme. The enthusiasm, curiosity, and commitment demonstrated by attendees were inspiring to see.
We hope that many of those who attended left feeling even more motivated to pursue a career in acute medicine, and we look forward to welcoming future delegates to upcoming Take AIM events.
